Three to four million
dogs and cats are being euthanized
in our country every year, largely the result of uncontrolled
breeding. Most people start out with good intentions, but
when unable to care for the litters of puppies and kittens,
or when they don't have the time or ability to care for adult
animals, they take them to shelters where they hope the animals
will be adopted. Unfortunately, many are euthanized.
It's happening all across our country!
There are simply not enough homes
to go around. In 2006, the shelter in Paulding County (where
I reside) euthanized 2,469 unwanted pets, and just this summer
was forced to do so three times in one week due to severe
overcrowding.

Voluntarily
spaying and neutering pets is the best
way to stem the problem of overcrowded shelters and abandoned
animals. A "fixed" pet is a healthier pet, reducing
the incidence of a number of health problems, including cancer.
Our own health and that of our children is also at risk, when
stray animals are left to run loose. Another way to keep animals
out of shelters, is to think before you get a pet and then commit
to keeping that animal as a part of your family for a lifetime.
With my ride from Dallas
to Dallas, I want to bring the message
of "Spay, Neuter and Adopt" to as many communities as
I can, making more people aware that it is
incumbent on US
to make a change. If you have a pet, spay or neuter them. It is
really very reasonable in terms of cost, especially when compared
against the cost of lost lives and illnesses that result from
pets not being spayed or neutered. If you have room in your home
for an abandoned dog or cat, consider adopting one and save its
life, making a new friend in the process.

I will be on the road from
April 5th - 12th. If
you see me, stop me and I will provide you with information about
the program. If you have a shelter or humane society in your area,
consider volunteering your time or donating to their efforts,
either in person or by making
a donation on this site to your local shelter.

But whatever you
